Etymology

Lead (Old English lǣdan, of Germanic origin; related to Dutch leiden and German leiten, related to English load and lode) + -er (a person or thing that performs a specified action/s, from Old English -ere, of Germanic origin) + -ship (denoting a quality, skill, or status, from Old English -scipe and scype, of Germanic origin).
